Helene Mayer, fencing phenom and half-Jew, agreed to fence for Hitler to save the Berlin Olympics from a boycott. Her silver medal wasn’t enough, however, to save her brother from forced labor at the hands of the Nazis.
This story follows Helene through her life, defying convention, expectations, stereotypes, inner flaws–and ultimately defying what is true and right–in her quest for trophies and stardom.
